That Sure Is an Improvement

Wow, it sure is a good thing House Republicans elected this reform minded «new blood» Majority Leader instead of Roy Blunt. It's funny, but I don't recall Blunt opposing the Hastert plan for lobbying reform in favor of something watered down.

House Majority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) has begun shifting his party toward an alternative lobbying reform package that stresses disclosure of lobbying contacts rather than the virtual ban on gifts and privately funded trips proposed last month by House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.).

If this is the route the GOP Caucus wants to go, as Boehner implies, what does that kind of no confidence vote imply about the continued viability of Hastert as Speaker.

It's interesting though that the entire House GOP leadership is ignoring the one thing that would grant them electoral salvation in favor of this tinkering around the edges of corruption. Forget Abramoff and Cunningham and strike at the root causes of corruption with real spending cuts and reform of taxation and spending.

I say this time and time again on my site...we need a Lee Atwater(s) in the House, Senate, RNC...NOW! I just don't see anyone taking that lead. Since my pals B-1 Bob Dornan and Newt hve gone into premature retirement, the politics on the right has just not been the same. Lee Atwater Where Are You!
